Tony Blair launches Citizenship CD-ROM
The
Right Hon Tony Blair MP today held a press call at
the offices of Darlington Borough Council in the UK
to launch a new Rotary Coping with Citizenship
CD-ROM
The
CD-ROM is the newest edition to the Rotary ‘Coping
with Life’ series of Multimedia programmes for schools,
which are available, FREE, to all schools throughout
the UK and Ireland. Invited guests will receive a
practical demonstration and explanation of how the
CD-ROM will benefit children, parents and teachers
as Citizenship becomes a fundamental part of the National
Curriculum within the coming months.
The
interactive CD-ROM has been backed by all the major
organisations which advise the Department for Education
and Skills on Citizenship issues. These include, The
Institute for Citizenship, The Centre for Citizenship
Studies in Education, CSV Education for Citizenship,
The Citizenship Foundation, The Council for Education
in World Citizenship, NCH Action for Children, The
National Foundation for Educational Research and the
National Family and Parenting Institute.
The Citizenship programme will cover such topics as,
children’s rights, marriage, parenting and families,
relationships, parental rights, social dilemmas and
conflicts, crime and law, living in a multi-cultural
society and global citizenship. The project is the
initiative of Rotary District 1030, which covers Cleveland,
Co Durham, Northumberland and Tyne & Wear, and development
work has been the responsibility of local Rotarian,
Colin Sawyer.
Coping
with Citizenship is a national initiative. Local Rotary
clubs across the UK will provide Coping with Life
CD-ROMs to schools in their area at their expense.
If schools or parents require additional CDs, they
can be ordered directly from Colin Sawyer on 01670
813470.
