£6.5m Eurofighter contracts for VEGA Group
VEGA
Group PLC (VEGA) has won two contracts, totalling
some £6.5 million, to support the Eurofighter Ground
Aids training programme.
Under
these contracts, VEGA is involved in developing a
desk-top trainer programme (DTT) and a maintenance
simulator trainer (MST), which will be PC-based training
devices for the UK, German, Spanish and Italian Airforces’
ground crew.
This contract is part of the overall Eurofighter training
solution, in which VEGA is partnered with established
Eurofighter partner companies EADS (Germany), EADS-CASA
(Spain) and Alenia (Italy). VEGA will be developing
40 per cent of the emulation software and 29 per cent
of the courseware involved in these projects, as well
as procuring and installing the UK systems.
Agreed additions for the delivery of hardware and
support packages makes this, effectively, VEGA’s largest
ever contract.
VEGA’s key role within this team was secured on the
basis of its extensive knowledge and experience in
a range of technologies and a successful track record
with the UK’s MoD in the provision of classroom-based
training systems.
According
to VEGA’s chief executive, Phil Cartmell: “The Eurofighter
project further cements VEGA’s position as a major
training solutions provider in the European defence
market. In addition to the contracted work, these
projects could provide for additional services, potentially
running for more than ten years.”
