UNESCO selects Electric Paper as automated testing provider for ICDL

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has chosen Electric Paper, the e-learning specialist, as an automated testing provider for the International Computer Driving Licence ( ICDL ) in the Arab region.

According to Jonny Parkes, Electric Paper’s Managing Director: “This marks another benchmark for AutoTest, the company’s award-winning testing product, which was one of the first of its kind to receive accreditation from the British Computer Society for automated testing of the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) known, outside Europe, as the ICDL. At present, some 1.7m people around the world are studying for the ECDL/ICDL –qualification,” he added.

AutoTest enables organisations to test and deliver results automatically for IT literacy students, eliminating the need for offline correction and reducing both human error and the time traditionally required for this purpose.

As part of its expansion into new markets, Electric Paper is working with the UNESCO Cairo Office (UCO), the regional office for Science and Technology in the Arab states, to implement AutoTest in both English and Arabic.

Mr Amr Azzouz, Director of UCO, said: "Electric Paper's deep understanding of IT literacy training as well as their flexible and comprehensive range of solutions were the important factors in our decision to choose them."

"The rigorous selection process undertaken by UNESCO Cairo Office, yet again proves that Electric Paper is the dominant specialist in IT literacy training”, said Jonny Parkes. “We are delighted to work with UNESCO and are committed to helping them achieve their vision “

"The demand for basic IT literacy skills across the Middle East is growing rapidly and is similar to the position that Ireland and the UK were in three or four years ago,” he continued. “We have seen the growth of the IT literacy market across many regions at different times and are pleased to share our experience and knowledge with UNESCO in helping them to deliver the ICDL programme successfully across the Arab region.”
