Bibliotech and Microsoft to Collaborate

BiblioTech and Microsoft are collaborating to integrate Microsoft's Class Server into the Schoolmaster secure on-line Internet learning environment for schools .

Microsoft's Class Server is web-enabled software that allows teachers and administrators to organise and manage instructional resources, link learning and assessment to curriculum standards and provide for individualised learning. It allows teachers to manage online five major teaching areas - curriculum standards, lesson plans, content, assignment and assessment.

More than 2,500 schools from over 50 countries currently enjoy the benefits of the Schoolmaster service. Schoolmaster is a safe, Web-based online learning environment designed to facilitate the development of IT skills, collaborative e-learning projects, individual student exploration and teacher professional development. The integration of Microsoft Class Server into the Schoolmaster framework provides subscribing schools a powerful, new component for managing learning content and assessment.

"Our service provides a secure virtual learning environment with many useful and easy-to-use communications and teaching tools," says Philip Waite, head of sales for Schoolmaster. "The addition of Class Server functionality to this site adds a valuable managed learning component to the service, which will bring Schoolmaster to the forefront of online educational tools".

As well as providing teachers with important time-saving e-learning tools, Microsoft Class Server will also benefit Schoolmaster subscribers by providing them access to a range of learning resource modules from educational publishers, as well as the ability to develop and share online their own instructional materials.

Schoolmaster is an award-winning, interactive, online learning environment designed specifically for schools, education authorities, teachers, students and parents. By combining a full suite of communication, groupware and content delivery applications in a single, intuitive, web-based interface, schoolmaster helps schools meet their ICT infrastructure needs.

As a closed community, schoolmaster enables safe, secure, peer-to-peer interaction and inter-school projects.. In January 2000, schoolmaster received the prestigious Intel-sponsored British Education Training Technology (BETT 2000) award for "Best Software Application - Secondary Schools".
